Grahamster, I haven't got mine either, and I too just double-checked all the check boxes. I hope it doesn't have something to do with the forum re-registration process or something. It seems like only a few of us are newsletter-challenged at the moment. I hope some anti-spam filter at my ISP or my new Zone Alarm didn't wack it.
Bob, too late about creasing! Sorry .. I'll get the irony-board out .. . AND THANK YOU !
Greg! Too funny!"newsletter-challenged . . . . . I get other newsletters that I've signed up for? Why not Sony?
Thanks people . . . . wish I was going to the NAB-Ball! Finances been redirected elswhere this year . . again!
Bob? Filters: Just got a 0.6 ND Solid and a Supermist Black No.1 - ho! Is that what Video is supposed to look like? I now got loads of light AND my iris is way open. Weird thing is that I thought I could capture that which I was looking at . . now I'm kinda in the same ball park. My on cammie ND 0.9 is great, but too much for UK lighting - yeah?
Hm,
0.9 ND? I assume its a grad ND? I think you're hitting an issue using a camera with small CCDs, I'm no whiz on this stuff but I seriously suspect that's where the big boys toys have an advantage. For example I think you'll find filters work differently on 35mm and 16mm cameras as the amount of the filter (the area) in the light path is different.
Is the Promist Black the same as the Black Mist from Schneider, they claim it can diffuse only the highlights which sounds awesome but again I don't know how well this'll work in from of 1/4" CCDs.
Bob.
The 0.9 ND is the one ON-cammie ND - so, no it aint a GRAD! And if Canon put it IN the cammie how would this be an issue? Bob? The 0.6 is Solid and give me something "less" than the onboard . . got it? NOW, when I put the .9 and the .6 together - er . . 1.5 ND - I get far more control over keeping the iris open - see? " . . . the big boys toys have an advantage. " well good for them! These filters are made for dv.
"Is the Promist Black the same as the Black Mist from Schneider" yes it is . . . it IS awesome! And it works on my 1/4 CCDs. It reduces highlights without affecting contrasts . .and don't ask me how it does it, but it is rather gorgeous! Bit like me really!
This is now putting me into yet another gear change . . . This filter stuff preps the camera for using "light" in a different way than I'm used to do. Brill!
Got yah. Can't you manaully control iris, gain and shutter in your camera?
I'm pleased to hear you're getting good results from the Black Mist, the frame grabs I've seen from 35mm look pretty impressive and from what you're saying this works for DV also, awesome stuff. We've got to spend some serious dollars and get the full matte box kit for at least one of our Z1s, this stuff on a HDV cammy would be awesome in the right hands.
How do you go trying to monitor what you're doing on your camera, I find the viewfinders on cameras next to useless, way too small and what you see isn't what you get due to the LCDs.
Bob.
"Can't you manaully control iris, gain and shutter in your camera?" - er . . . yes? But again how is this linked to the comments I've made about filters? I now always video in manual mode. All the variables you mention are on notches.
"How do you go trying to monitor what you're doing on your camera, . ." I use a Hoodman Magnifier - plus I also have a 5.5" 12v external mon.
I've given Sony my e-mail address on a number of occasions and I rarely get anything--newsletters, product notifications, upgrade info, etc.--in my mailbox I see you guys talking about.
It may or may not be relevant, but I noticed that when I received my Sony email, my Outlook Express watchdog classified it as Spam and I had to say "Down Rover, it's a friend" before it would let it through.
Thanks Peter! I too use OE, but I don't get/am aware of a spam blocker on certain emails? How would I know and where can I set it to give the -"Down Rover!" command? Nice image . . . Ruff, but to the point-er!
Ah well - when they're back from Easter hols, I expect one of the Sony guys will clarify what it takes to be on their email list. At the moment it sounds more exclusive than the Queen's Birthday Honours List! (Don't tell me Grazie - you're already on that one!)
I find it highly amusing, or maybe highly annoying, that all SONY media software emails contain the phrase "This is NOT spam!", which of course, 99.3% of all email filters key on and immediately dump the message into the spam bucket. It seems like almost every piece of spam i've ever seen contains that phrase. SONY's is about the only valid email that has it.
