Where to download previous Vegas builds?

Sol M. wrote on 11/1/2005, 6:47 PM
I recently did a complete clean install of my edit computer. After installing Vegas 6.0c, I found that several of Sony's audio plugins (namely those that are part of the XFX 3 pack and the Resonant Filter) were, for some reason, stuck in Demo mode. In this mode, the plugins would place random beeping sounds when on playback of the timeline.

Discussion of the issue:
http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=416535

After much hair pulling, I gave up on trying to make 6.0c work, uninstalled it, cleaned the registry, and installed 6.0a. Problem solved.

So, while I've given up on 6.0c, I'd still like to use the latest stable version (6.0b), but I cannot find it on Sony's site. Is there some secret page on the site where I can download it? Otherwise, how else can I revert an older version when Sony only allows the download of their latest build (however buggy it may be)?

Also, can others confirm whether this issue is present or not on their 6.0c installs? I'd still like to find the reason for my problem. I ran 6.0c since it came out before I reformatted my computer and didn't notice this as an issue, which is mainly because I never needed to use these plugins. Truthfully, the use of these plugins is not essential for what I do, but my inner programmer is just irked by the idea that Sony released a buggy build that precludes its users from using plugins that they PAID for.

The audio plugins I've found to be in Demo mode are:
1) XFX 3 Plug-In Pack
-- Amplitude Modulation
-- Distortion
-- Flange/Wah-Wah
-- Gapper/Snipper
2) Resonant Filter

Furthermore, Sony has had a warning about expired plugins and demo beeps on it's product download pages for some time now (it appears to be since the name change from Sonic Foundry to Sony took place in their products). However, it refers to this issue occuring due to user modifications of the default install path and Sonic Foundry/Sony program conflicts. In my case, I had no other Sony/Sonic Foundry products installed when I installed Vegas 6.0c (as I had just done a complete reformat of the HD), so I can't see how this could be the cause of what I am experiencing. That, coupled with the fact that 6.0a doesn't appear to suffer from the same problem, tells me that something may be very wrong with 6.0c.

But I really would like to hear what others have experienced on their installs of 6.0c. If this is just an issue isolated to a few users, then I may need to look once again into making 6.0c work on my system.

The Sony site only has the last build of each version. You can get 4e or 5d and 6c but that seems to be it. You can download the Sept. 1999 XFX version, XFX310.exe if that helps.

I've got them all back through 3.0. If you wanna hit me through the contact address in my profile i can arrange to send 6.0b to you. It's 93.1MB so i'd probably have to stick it on my server for you to download.

this is where you want to go:
http://download.sonymediasoftware.com/

then just browse the folders for what you want.

never noticed those were in demo mode... anyone ever e-mail sony about it?
MH_Stevens wrote on 11/2/2005, 10:51 AM
HappyFria's link only has the versions I already mentioned. Sony does not now keep all old versions there anymore.

I've been asked by SONY to install V6b to attempt to get back my Media Manager. However V6b has some glitches that weren't there in 6a . . or V5 or V4 . . so I'm a bit turned around at the moment.

hm... you're right. They must of changed that not long ago.
i found the link for 6b but it appears that Sony now uses the same links for all versions of the same piece of software now. :(

jive, did you get it? If not I can put v6b online tomorrow (today?) for you to download.

Grazie: I have 6b.exe - can I not email it to you? Do you have broadband? The email for you in this forum does not take attachments. Post an email address but I will be off to bed in ten.

TheHappyFriar: Thanks for the offer. Chienworks actually helped me out to get 6.0b a couple days ago. So far, no problems that I experienced with 6.0c.

I'm still curious tho: can others currently using 6.0c verify whether the audio plugins I mentioned in my initial post are registered as DEMO or not on their systems?

Guys . . I had other bug issues with V6b, now cured in V6c . . but in V6c Media Manager wont load. I do have V6b on a disc. Perhaps I should stay with V5 or even V4? Maybe even Videofactory . . burn my Ford and get a Horse and Buggy . .. rescind my Aspirin and use chew on Willow Bark? I could also rear chickens and make my own sandals?

NO! I want V6c working .. NOW! I loved Media Manager in V6b.

Thanks guys, you are the best - really!

Finished reinstalling back to 6.0b. Got no satisfaction out of 6.0c in rendering nested files. 6.0b ran nested files flawlessly.

I am using V.6.0c and I have noticed none of the problems that have been reported on either of my machines - all my audio plugins are working fine (i.e. they are not in demo mode), the Media Manager works just fine for me still, and I have not noticed any problem with the duration of nested projects.

I haven't done anything special to achieve this - just updated in the usual way. So although I can confirm that V.6.0c seems to work fine on at least two systems I'm afraid I can't offer any suggestions as to what might be going wrong on those systems that are experiencing these problems.

6.0c worked fine for me too... until I got rid of V4. That's when the audio plugins went to demo mode. Vegas 6 was installed in the Sony folder, 4 in the SF folder. I re-installed V6 & it didn't fix them.

I e-mailed tech support asking quetions.

Don't you just have to run the "Migration Tools"?
TheHappyFriar wrote on 11/5/2005, 6:53 PM
don't know, never needed to. I just finished a project so I'm going to pop in a 120gb HD & re-build my system. So, in a week or two I'll find out. :)

Ah, that might be the key perhaps.

I never uninstall any of the previous versions - it's not as though it would save you much disk space after all, compared to the size of a video file - and occasionally it is useful to go back to a previous version just to check how things worked then.

So I still have Acid 4 & 5, Sound Forge 6, 7, & 8, DVDA 1, 2, & 3, and Vegas 4, 5, & 6 all co-existing quite happily on the same machines.

I gave my dad my copy of V4 because he does training videos. I had the SN transfered, so being a legal guy I took it off. :) Wouldn't of if I knew this would happen. :)

'I never uninstall any of the previous versions - " Mark says. I would get too confused if I had more than one copy running on my machine but I do archive the downloaded setup/zip files so I could reinstall if I needed too, but I have never found a newer version of Vegas to be better in any way than an older version.

Hello everybody,

The nested project bug was reported via Tech Support, reproduced, and has been fixed for the next Vegas update. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

FroumAdmin: Anything else you can let us know about the next release (i.e. release date, if higher resolutions/bit rates will be available for AVC/AAC)

Thanks.
