Where to learn advanced exiting

cdavis411 wrote on 6/22/2017, 9:45 AM

I have been using Sony Vegas Pro (currently using v14) for a couple years now and could really use a creativity boost. I have used every tutorial I can find but have it a plateau in my ability to produce quality video. In my case I am mainly editing church services and would like to really step up the quality of our lower thirds and titling. I a not interested in paying a lot of money for other people's creation. Any nudge in the right directions is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

With all due respect, as I believe you want to expand your editing skills, start by proofing everything you send out, especially titles.

Next, search for articles and tuts by walter murch.

Then, delve further into specific vegas topics here and on utube, there's a wealth…

At the age of 83 I tend to avoid any form of exiting, advanced or otherwise. dlion's advice is excellent with regard to Walter Murch.

That's Ok, just go to larger monitors when you get over 80. Mine are 32".

I would say 83 is an achievement by itself!

I think you are saying you've hit a creative plateau and that, mainly, you'd like to do better with your lower thirds but don't want to spend money on someone elses lower thirds. Then .. I suggest (if you are willing to spend the time) you can create your own custom lower thirds with the tools that come standard with VP14. But --- that does require an idea of what you'd want and the time to develop the skills needed. Once you have that idea and can communicate it, there are lots of folks here that might help "nudge you in the right direction" to help execute your design.

Here's some flashy lower third examples. Let's start there. Is this something like what you had in mind?

Paul B .. PCI Express Video Card: EVGA VCX 10G-P5-3885-KL GeForce RTX 3080 XC3 ULTRA ,,  Intel Core i9-11900K Desktop Processor ,,  MSI Z590-A PRO Desktop Motherboard LGA-1200 ,, 64GB (2X32GB) XPG GAMMIX D45 DDR4 3200MHz 288-Pin SDRAM PC4-25600 Memory .. Seasonic Power Supply SSR-1000FX Focus Plus 1000W ,, Arctic Liquid Freezer II – 360MM .. Fractal Design case ,, Samsung Solid State Drive MZ-V8P1T0B/AM 980 PRO 1TB PCI Express 4 NVMe M.2 ,, Wundiws 10 .. Vegas Pro 19 Edit

Thanks Xberk. I will take a closer look at that and start asking for help.

There is a (quite large) school of thought that flashy titles and lower thirds make a production look more amateurish. Just something to keep in mind.

otherwise simple study tv more closely. you'll find everything from trashy style promo's on cable through to quite sophisticated ones on public service.

as for getting your viewers' attention nothing beats a good script. no amount of effects and lower thirds ever made a program more interesting.
