Did that and the two choices are to upgrade from Movie Maker or plain old Vegas.

I would think upgrading from a Vegas Pro edition would be different and maybe a little less expensive.

Oh well... there goes another 250 bucks.

"Plain old Vegas" is "Vegas Pro" now. Starting a few versions ago "Pro" got tacked onto the name.

Even easier, just go to "My Software" and upgrade that way. They're currently offering a 25% discount via that way too (according to the e-mail).
