Which camera should I rent?

Hello, everyone,

I normally use Vegas to edit computer animations but for a current project I need to shoot some video to integrate with the 3D graphics. It's just two or three shots, no more than 30 seconds in total. I am going to use the footage for tracking and camera matching.

As I do mostly animation I have unfortunately been out of the loop for a while regarding video formats beyond HDV. The following cameras are available to me for rent. Which one - that will work with my system* - gives me the best quality?

- Sony HVR-S270E
- Sony HVR-Z7
- Sony PMW-EX1
- Panasonic AG-HVX 200
- Sony Z1

Any suggestions?

Marc

* I use Vegas 8 and 8.1 on a Quadcore (4x3Mhz) with 8GB RAM and a SATA Harddrive (no RAID or anything). No special I/O boards, just firewire.

If you're doing animations, I'd suggest you use the EX1.

Would I need a PCMCIA slot to get the footage of the EX1 onto my computer? Or can I transfer the data thorugh firewire (not capturing, just moving the files)?

You can transfer the footage from the camera (cards) to your computer via firewire. However, you'll need to download ClipBroswer 2.5 (free).
