Which format to use?

I'm capturing camcorder clips on my computer using my ATI AIW-PRO video card. I want to record my
clips onto a CD-ROM, for distribution so friends can either play them from the CD-ROM, or else copy
them to their hard drive. Most of my clips are anywhere from 30 seconds to several minutes in length.
I spent a lot of time "playing around" last weekend, and found that MPG-1 format worked quite well,
could be used on PCs with Windows Media Player 6.4, the file length was much less than that of a
similar .avi file, and quality was superior to avi. I'm really pleased with the VF product.

Couple of questions ... I found that capturing clips in YUV-9 format (30fps) or ATI VCR-1 format (30fps)
gave me good results, but I can capture at 320x240, or at 352x240 size. Which size should I use for
the purpose of my end use? What template should I use in VF for rendering the clips? I'd like to use
30fps because the playback quality is noticeably better. I've rendered in 320x240 (square pixel) which
seems to geve good results if I captured them at 320x240. But, if I captured at 352x240 and rendered
at the DV template 704x480, and "reduce it" (in the properties window) to 352x240, the playback is
horrible ... the video and audio get WAY out of sync with each other. Is there something I'm not doing
right here? Any suggestions would certainly be helpful.

Thanks.
