There are a bunch of discussions on GPUs in the forum already.

Totally new = r9 290

30bit color = w5100 w/display chain that can display it.

It would be interesting to see some openCL numbers between the 2 cards.

In general I have found "workstation class" GPU's like the FirePro or Quadro to be poor price performers in Vegas Pro compared to their consumer counterparts. That's because Vegas Pro doesn't take advantage of any of the extra 3D modeling capabilities that you are paying a high price for. Vegas Pro just cares about GPU processing power.

So let's look at the specs: The FirePro W5100 has 768 stream processing units while the Sapphire R9 290 has 2560 stream processing units. Which do you think is going to perform better in Vegas Pro?

Don't waste your money on a workstation card for Vegas Pro. I did once and I will never do it again. It worked great, but it was never worth the money I paid.
