Which Plug ins?

Hi,
I have been using Vegas 2.0 recently and have progressed to start using plug ins, however not clear on what is the correct order to use plug ins. Any tips will be appreciated. Sorry very basic questions!

The way I see is there are same set of plug ins available at the track level as well as bus. Also the same plug ins can also be made assignable FX controls.

So how do you decide what to use when?

What is the advantage of using assignable FX control vs using plug ins directly in the track or bus ?

Thanks a lot.

Use sends to have the option of sending many tracks to the same plug preset, for instance, a "drum" verb that you want to mix various amounts of Tom/snare, etc. where you'd want the same basic "space".

Insert eq individually to fix or shape particular problem areas or sonic characteristics of individual tracks.

Order of inserts is very important esp. when throwing gates/compressors into the equation.

You can also save some resources by using sends and one instance of a plug instead of using multiple redundant settings, when appropriate.

Basically, if you find yourself using the same plug on multiple tracks like reverb on background vocals, then you're better off creating a buss for all the background vox and adding the plugin to that buss. I've also found that if I like a specific plugin, I'll "open copy in sound forge", apply the effect in real time. That way you're not running plugs in real time and hitting brick walls with cpu limitations. You can always "change take" back to your original, or create multiple ones.
