Which resoluition to import stills?

I have a bunch of stills that I'm putting out to a DV tape.

My question is what type of resolution should I export from Photoshop into Vegas so that I don't get any distortion? (640x480 or 720x480)

I've tried to find the answer, but my head gets a little fuzzy when we start dealing with pixel aspect ratios and all that stuff.

Thanks!
Alex

For NTSC DV output, create stills at 655x480, png format.

Thanks for the info...

Just for curosity... Why png? (as opposed to jpeg, psd, bmp, etc) and also why 655x480?

Thanks again,
Alex

NTSC DV video has a pixel aspect ratio of .9091, and a screen size of 720x480, so:

.9091 x 720= 654.552. Round that off (up) to 655.

This is how the value of 655(width) in 655x480 is derived.

.png files can store an alpha channel which Vegas can detect automatically. You could also use tif, tgs, jpeg, bmp, or gif if you don't care about alphas.
