Which Ryzen CPU ( 7 - 1700/1700X vs 1950 Treadripper)

Hello all,

I have read through the discussions, but I'm still not sure which way to go. I'm hoping maybe someone can just push me in the right direction.  I was waiting for Threadripper, but it seems like the additional cores do not have much gain in real word experience.  Can anyone confirm this?  I can afford Threadripper, but also don't want to throw away money if the gains are not worth it.  Between the Ryzen 7 processors, seems the 1700 is the best value (maybe 1700X) now.

I'm currently on Vegas 14, but plant to upgrade to 15.  I currently have an R9 290X video card, but understand the NVIDIA's are the way to go now? I plan to only use one video card.  Maybe an upgraded card with the Ryzen 7 makes better sense?

Any input is appreciated!! Thanks all !!

Steve

Keep your R9 290X and buy the fastest 6-core Intel CPU you can afford, a socket 2011 is preferred due to the higher PCIe lane count.

Best for what and compared to what?

I get that on paper the 1950X is the best, just looking for real world experiences.  I waited for months for the Treadripper, but now I'm just not certain Vegas is really going to give much return on those 16 cores vs 8 cores. I've been so focused on Ryzen's new processors, that I haven't even really thought about Intel, but maybe that's the best price point.

This video is one that got me thinking maybe Treadripper is overkill for Vegas.

Thanks all !
