Which settings should I use

I am new to this video editing stuff and would like to know which settings would be best for what I am going to learn to do. Below is a list of what I want to accomplish.
1. Capture from a vhs tape edit and make a VCD or SVCD out of it.
2. Capture from an old sony 8mm video camera and edit and make a VCD or SVCD

Right now all I have is VF 1.0 and VCDeasy, an ATI TV Wonder VE capture card, and the computer has plenty of power, memory and HD space.
Below are my questions
1. Would I be better off upgrading to 2.0 if so why?
2. what settings would work best for what i want to accomplish?
Thank you
Jim Clark

I can give you the recommended basic requirements for DV video editing and others may offer the best formats for what you want:
2 hd's (1 with the main prog on and the other dedicated to editing), regular defragging (because of the size of DV any inserting/deleting will leave large gaps on hd allowing room for error), all b/ground progs off especially for capture and printing (reduces room for error and frame dropping).
It is always best to get the latest version of any prog because companies iron out the bugs as they go. There are vertually no bugs to worry about with v. 2.0 plus build 2.0c.
Hope this helps and welcome.

Jim;

If you're new to video editing........, Welcome! It's a lot of fun, and has all kinds of practical uses.

Three things you should carve in stone right now:

1) You will NEVER have enough hard drive space.
2) You will NEVER have enough memory.
3) You will NEVER have a fast enough processor or bus.

Having said that, please tell us a little more about your system. (Processor, memory, free hard disk space, Operating System etc.) With complete information, we can make much more applicable comments.

You will find that this is one of the best forums on the subject. There are many knowledgeable people here who will happily spend time to help you get where you need to be.

Again, Welcome!
