Which version of Vegas Pro is more stable?

My question is for people who have used vegas pro 17 build 452. Which version of Vegas Pro is more stable? 17 pro 452 or 18 pro. I can't run version 18 pro on my computer so I'm asking you what you can say about it. It is generally a session to turn to the latest version of Vegas pro 18

Hi, I think your question shows a real need, but the answers will be very little relevant to you I am afraid, because it seems Vegas behaves very very differently between different computers, users and procedures.

In my experience with v17 and very short experience with v18, I think I can say this:

Vegas 17 - unstable, crash on me often, but renders just fine.

Vegas 18 - very stable, no crashes at all so far, in one day and half. But I cannot render.

You choose! :)

RogerS wrote on 8/6/2020, 7:27 AM

If your system is stable with 17 it's probably going to be stable with 18 as well. (mine is). I don't have issues with rendering.

adimatis wrote on 8/6/2020, 7:34 AM

I am sorry, was to fast to reply. Just now, within five minutes, two crashes, on a different computer than my regular laptop. :( V18 that is.

So, @RogerS you are probably right. If Vegas 17 was fine with you, v18 will be too.

But also the REVERSE is seems to be true. If problems with v17, then v18 seems to follow.

Although, as I say, I am now testing on a different computer. And crashes just as with the other one...

I will investigate more, but slowly I kind of loose hope... Yes, it is too early still, but...

I am using the trial version of V18 and so far it is as stable as V17, not more! On my system (See my system configuration in my SIGNATURE below), both are fairly stables but I get crashes once in while!

I still wish that one day, maybe in V19, Vegas Pro will be as stable as DaVinci Resolve Studio.

@adimatis "If problems with v17, then v18 seems to follow" That is why I am not upgrading to V18, unless the price is reduced for loyal and very long time users like me, otherwise the upgrade price ($349) is not worth it for me 😌

@Marco. I have Vegas Pro 17 Suite and the upgrade price for me is $349 unless I downgrade to the Vegas Pro or Vegas Edit!

Hello AboOmmar,

I took a look at your specs. I'm well aware of what the Quadro series is, but its effectiveness is something I'd usually associate with Adobe rather then VEGAS PRO. Could you tell me how has your experience been with VEGAS in general using this card?

Also, I'm well aware of the power Xeon processors. I've recommended some builds with them! But that's usually for Adobe products.

I have Skylake 6700k-i7 Processor. Slightly below the recommended specs. And yet VP 18 has been much faster and stable, even when digging up projects that typically crashed 17 for me.

I know you're a veteran - but can you share with us how you have your software configured?

My first observations are that it is as stable as vegas 17 pro 452. All plugins from the old version work. It does not crash so far, we will see how it will continue, but probably after all the problems I had with running Vegas 18 Pro, where the reason was probably the graphics card driver and the chipset, now everything works.

One thing I miss is the Vegas pro 18 taskbar I don't have a percentage bar when I load a project and that's why I have such an impression that Vegas has crashed, but he thinks and suddenly the project jumps in. Maybe you could turn it on somewhere

That does seem to be unusual. It's definitely there when I load a project in VP18.

It's not hidden by the Windows task bar by any chance, or VP18's window is not configured ideally for your monitor?

@RogerS During the last 3 years of using DaVinci Resolve, it never crashed on me when doing complex color grading .. it has been super solid for me, so far. However, it did crashed more than once when trying the Fusion tap and the Edit tap, but still it happens very rarely. Overall, DaVinci Resolve is far more stable than Vegas Pro, at least in my system.

@Mohammed_Anis  Hello Mohammed, it has been very long time since I was using nVidia GeoForce GPUs and Intel Core i7 so I it is hard for me to tell if Quadro and Xeon are better for Vegas Pro or not, however my experience in general is very positive with my current system.

"can you share with us how you have your software configured?" I am not sure what you mean by that! Could you elaborate more?
