$$$$.
Just a temporary setback, hopefully. Income as a software developer isn't that great right now. (Read: Nonexistent.) So do I feed my kids and pay my mortgage or upgrade to VV4 :-? Not much of a call.

Plus, I'm also unable to afford a DVD burner, so I don't need the other part of the package just yet.

I have yet to master all the functions of v3 so maybe v4 would be wasted on me ? Also, despite everyone saying it is an excellent update, I didn't see anything in there that would really help me.

I'm just a hobbyist. I edit my own family video. I did shoot and edit a wedding for a friend(the family was extremely pleased). I have bought and used Studio400, StudioDV, DVRaptor with Premiere5.1c, VideoFactory, and upgraded to VV3. I have spent more on video editing than I should have. VV3 does all that I need it to do. It is easy to use, fast, doesn't crash, and totally enjoyable to edit with. I don't use all the features that is available. I could very easily get by with VideoFactory. VV4? Maybe if someone gave it to me, but I see no reason to buy it. VV3 is running on an AMD 2100 XP Pro system. With Sonic MyDVD that came with my A05, I don't forsee any upgrades for a very long time!!!

This is a very good question, you could also ask how any people are still running Win98SE and why and get much the same sort of answers.

Its ironic that with software your only reward for having a stable product that gets the job done is red ink on the bottom line.

P.S. Didn't mean to imply that Win98 was stable, but in a recent trip through China that was all I saw running on 1000s of PCs.

For me, VV3 and DVDComplete do almost everything I need. AC3 would be nice, as would scripting, but those two things don't justify the upgrade cost yet. As they say (who is "they?") if it ain't broke... VV3 has been extremely stable; I know how to use it; it does what I need.
