Who uses HP 200i burner with DVDA successfully?

I have produced 3 coasters that are not compatible with any set top DVD players.

Here is what I've done, PICK IT APART !

1. using DVDA 1.0B (do I need to use 1.0C)
2. using Verbatim 4.7GB DVD+R video dvd media.
3. Burning at 1X (although the HP can burn at 2.4X, not an option in DVDA menu box)
4. All files come from Vegas 4.0B prepared apropriately so they are not recompressed.
(formats are mainconcept mpeg2, and PCM for audio)
5. Project has a single menu with three buttons to play three mpeg2 video's. Total length is approx. 18 minutes or a 24% at 8,000 mbps.
6. In optimize all setting are "From project" for video and "PCM" for audio.
7. All "Rendering" and "Preparing" dialogues show that it was prepared successfully.
8. It will only play in the PowerDVD software program.
9. HP DVD+R recorders (So I am told...) write DVD-Rom identification to DVD+R discs by default.
10. The final disk was taken to BEST BUY and did not work in the following DVD Players that read DVD+R or DVD+RW:

Phillips-DVD724AT
Sony-DVP-NS325 or DVP-NS725P or DVP-NS715P
JVC-XV-N50

Conclusion: is this a DVDA preparation problem, because I sure am reading alot about NERO and this is supposed to be a Sonic Foundry Forum...?

Love the software, but if it doesn't work then........

I've been using my HP burner for over a year now and have made quite a few DVD+R and RW's with success. The only problem I have found to date is that the RW's don't play on my sister'n'laws player. However, I changed a setting on the disk with DVDbitSetter to DVD-ROM and it worked fine on her player after that.

Maybe you have a faulty burner???

I have successfully used HP200i with DVD-A. I'm still very new to Vegas and DVD-A and my discs this far has only been +RW discs but they play on my Philips DVD 711 without any problems. Your problem is more likely to be a player problem than a burner problem. For a compatiablity list of DVD +R/+RW and stand alone player visit http://www.dvdrhelp.com/

I agree with Vulcan. I too have used a HP200i with DVD-A and at its rated 2.4 speed with no problems. Perhaps this will help. Do NOT insert the blank DVD disk right away. Fire up DVD-A, click on the final burn option. It will for a moment show the slower speed. Now insert the blank DVD. After it spins up this should change to the correct 2.4 speed. Proceed to burn the DVD.

When the DVD was ejected at the completion of the burn did it say it was a successful burn or report errors?

The problem is morely like either your blank media or the DVD player you are attempting to use.

Did you use the default bitrate setting for MPEG-2 and the correct template?

I use DVDA + the HP 200i DVD burner, Philips DVD 711 player.

I burn +R and +RW's all day, every day. No problems, no issues at all.

As someone else mentioned, many problems can be attributed to the DVD player itself.

I checked http://www.dvdrhelp.com/ (formerly vcdhelp.com) and it gives a very comprehensive list of what DVD players play what best. The Phillips is pretty much a play-anyhting solution that is very affordable. You can get it at Wal Mart.

DVDA and my system have proven very, very reliable.

Yes, the DVD ejected with a successful burn message.

Also, in "Render as"I used the default settings for mainconcept mpeg 2(when choosing that setting I assume the bitrate is correct...) and the NTSC DVD template in Vegas. Was that correct?

Also, I am using Verbatim 1x-4X speed DATALIFE PLUS media. Are there any problems with that?

Finally, all of the drives that should read DVD+R that I mentioned were checked out and were compatible on the dvdrhelp.com website. I have installed the latest firmware from the HP website and will try that.

Thanks for your help, and feedback. CRH

Although the HP200i specs say it is for DVD+R and DVD+RW media, I have only burnt coasters with +R. It works perfectly with +RW media. I've read what others have written, I'm just sharing my personal experience.
