I was there and it was awesome! There is so much information to cover that you could easily span several days. Spot covered all the new features of Vegas 5 like 3D Motion, Bezier masks, ACID Loops, and even using the Mackie control surface. It was really a wealth of information.

I was going to bring a camera but I thought I’d have trouble getting it into the Sony building (at some companies it’s tough to get a camera pass). I didn’t see anyone else taking pictures although Spot brought his camera the day before at the free event and I took some pictures for him while he was presenting.

Is it the same seminar (content-wise)? 'cause I'm pretty sure the NYC one was free.

Whoops, quick on the trigger. Maybe I was wrong. Was there a free event as well as a (paid) VASST seminar?

Rob
(many hours away from any of these events, free or otherwise...)

Yes, NYC was one of the places where there was a free 3 hour event the day before and then the actual 9 hour VASST seminar the next day. The paid VASST seminar was primarily Vegas 5+DVD while the free event also covered ACID and Sound Forge.

I went to both. The paid training was primarily Vegas users while the free event contained several AVID and Premiere users who had trouble keeping their jaws off the ground. ;-)

bStro;
there are 2 events: the free Sony event the day prior, which lasts approximately 3 hours, covering highlights of Vegas, Sound Forge, Acid, Noise Reduction, and CD Architect.
then...
The next day is a 9 hour intensive on Vegas and DVD Architect. Agenda for the paid-training day is available at

Pictures of the tour events are found at
including some of the NYC pix that Johnny Roy so kindly shot for us.

That Sony room looked incredible- looked like it had two REAR projection screen monitor in the front! Anyway- will you be coming back to NYC for the advanced Vegas 5 tour? If so, when? Thanks.

I went.

It was pretty nice event. My favorites from the Goodie bag are the mini Photoflex litedisc and the HarkLoops CD. I have only had a chance to listen to a couple of them so far. But the piano loops are really nice. Haven't checked out the other disks yet.

The best part was when Gary Kleiner showed how easy it is to swap out a motherboard on a laptop, using Spot's Vaio. It remained moderately stable for the rest of the event. That surprised me, especially with the generic memory he put it.

JohnnyRoy, nice to meet you. So glad you could make it, what with the house arrest restrictions and all. If your parole officer or anybody else asks, I'll swear I was with you in your living room playing pinochle.

Wow. I trust this was a "emergency surgery"? I don't think I'd ever try that on a laptop on a whim.

Thanks for the info, Spot. The tour's not coming very close to me, but there's a good chance I'll be moving to Atlanta soon, so I may need to take a trip (or two) down there to check out housing, job opps, etc. Third week of June sounds like a good time to do so....

Buster you are bad to the bone dude. ;-) It was great meeting you too. (oh, if they ask, who won the pinochle game?)

I don't even know how to play pinochle. I just figured it's what you criminals like to play.

Also, if I'm going to be in the same sentence with George Thorogood song, it should be one his good ones. You know, the ones he ripped off from Hank Williams, John Lee Hooker and Chuck Berry.

RIP Ray Charles

Travelling so much HAS affected my brain. I don't even remember doing that. :-0

Thanks,
Gary

Come to think of it, this Gary Kleiner didn't have a mustache and had no pony tail. It didn't seem strange at the time, but now that I think about it.....

bStro, we'd love to have you along for the day. Heck, stay for 2 days and get the ACID training too. :-) Jeffrey P. Fisher is doing that. I'll be winging my way to Toronto.
Dallas last night was a hoot. I'm just now getting ready to go down for the day with the VASST Dallas folks. They'll a fun group of guys and a gal.

Are you coming back to NYC for the Advanced Tour?
Spot|DSE wrote on 6/11/2004, 11:07 PM
Absolutely!!!
I LOVE NYC!!
Can't wait to have dinner at Jekyl and Hydes!
busterkeaton wrote on 6/12/2004, 12:04 PM
I was watching HBO last night and the movie Secretary was on. There is a dream sequence with a lot of chromakey work. Perhaps it was because I sitting close to my TV, but I thought to my self, wow, there is a lot of green spill on James Spader's face right there. And a lot of green fringing along the edge. I never notice that stuff. So I guess the chromakey part of VASST sunk in.
GmElliott wrote on 6/12/2004, 7:08 PM
Great. Is that tour scheduled for the fall or next year? Thanks.
Spot|DSE wrote on 6/12/2004, 7:36 PM
The advanced tour is scheduled for the fall. We'll be announcing it in another month or so. Still waiting on some sponsor questions.
