Why 24/96 files stored as 32/96 ?

I recently recorded a pipe organ recital using Vegas, set
to 24-Bit/96 KHz. The last piece was about 15 minutes
long, and I noticed that the .wav file was over 700 MB.

I opened the file in Vegas, noting that it was listed in
the Open box as 32-bit file. I then did Ctrl+M to mix to
new track, using Project Default option (24/96), and the
resulting file was a little under 500 MB. Opening the new
file, the Open box says it's a 24-Bit file.

? ? ?

What audio card are you using?

Some cards do not actually open in 24 bit packed mode. They support
24 bit through a 32 bit container. We default to using this as the
supported format.

Hi Peter,

I'm using DAL CardDeluxe, coax S/PDIF input, from Lucid AD9624 box.
DAL setup does give the option of right or left justify, on 24 bit.
Maybe that's set up wrong ? I don't recall changing that setting.
