Why can't Vegas render mp4 at any frame size?

Sorry if this has been covered before, just struck this limitation.
Almost anything other than the default frame sizes or frame rates gives an error. Very frustrating, I've now got my PAL video as very nice 25p and I'd like to leave it that way, not have to turn it into 29.97p.
Maybe my install is broken, surely they wouldn't let us dial in number that we shouldnt?

nah dude, veags mp4 is VERY restricted.. being that mot templates ive seen are pretty much for PSP or ipod..

u cant even export mp4 hd content.. apart from 720p

I assme youre refering to the sonay AND main concept offerings within vegas..

When you say "mp4" is that H.264/AVC video? What frame size / frame rate did you try, and what is the error? I've generated a wide range of H.264 video from 320x240 up to 1920x1088 from Vegas. I believe that there is a limitation that both X and Y dimensions must be integer multiples of 16, but that is from the H.264 spec, not from Vegas.

Just tried 720x480, Vegas gives a "An error occurred while creating the media file...The reason for the error could not be determined".

The default template works OK.
Tried 1920x1088, same error message.

That's using "Sony AVC/AAC(*.mp4)"

All of the above with Vegas 7.0e

Try the mainconcept MP4, that works OK for me.

Thanks a million, THAT seems to work without a dummy spit.

Bob it could be that our framerate is 25p and with those high end specs, 25p is actually not "officially" supported..
in fact, 25p is not even supported on MPG2 Blueprint BD...

Nah,
the MC mpeg-4 encoder will encode 25p just fine.
I'm trying out a few ways to encode something to upload to Revver, they seem to offer somewhat better than Youtube.
However they like Youtube don't go much out of their to help you get the best quality. What I've tried so far after shooting 50i is to convert to 25p using Mike Crash's smart de-interlacer then convert to mpeg-4 at 480x360 at 1:1 PAR doing a slight crop with Vegas. Doesn't look too bad and I think I've not squeezed the video but I'm still getting something wrong as there's small black bars on the side of the video once Revver has re-encoded it.

Overall I have to wonder why all these sites go to such great lengths to make our task so difficult. How hard would it be for them to just have a page of technical info. I had to ferret around in their forums to get a even half the story.
