If you're converting it to 29.97, it needs to render.
If you're only editing and it's cuts-only, using a 24p project, the only thing that should be rendering is the audio file.
What format are you rendering to?

well, i've tried both formats, (24 and 29) and they both have to render and playback all jumpy and choppy, when it renders it looks wierd.

Vegas 4 did not have this problem, is there a capture setting that I am Missing.

Also i thought dvx footage was 29.97, doesn't the pulldown happen inside the camera.

Also when I capture into AVID express it looks fine and plays back normal. I really don't understand why this is happening.

try swapping field-orders.

Maybe disable resample?

You don't say what Vegas version you're using now or what kind of videography you're doing. But, I use Vegas 5 and for any slo-mo and especially for any aniimation I always disable resample (in the Edit menu, under switches...).

If I don't disable resampling for slo-mo or animation the rendered video comes out jumpy and choppy--similar to your complaint.

Best regards,

Lee

did you try pelladon's suggestion?

field order incompatibilty can definitely make problems like jumpy/jittery looking renders.

I´m editing 24p footage from the dvx100 in V6 just fine.

Your project properties should be:

NTSC DV 24p (720x480, 23.976 fps)

Frame rate: 23.976 (IVTC Film)
0.9091 (NTSC DV)

Obviously, the dvx100 shoots progressive so don´t select the "upper field" or "lower field" option. Just select progressive.

The pulldown is performed by both he camera and the NLE.

The camera inserts those frames so it can record onto a dv tape, once you digitize the footage, Vegas will omit those 6 extra frames, giving you 24p.

Also, make sure that your preview window is set to: "Preview (auto)"

Ah, one more thing, make sure that in the preferences window you have selected the "allow pulldown removal when opening a 24p project"

If you don´t do that, you´ll be editing regular, progressive (except for a couple of frames every second) 30 ntsc footage. Wich is fine, as long as you want it, and you should not have problems previewing and/or editing it.
