Why Does Media Manager Insert Media Automatic

I thought you had to place media into the media manager. My media manager seems to work the same way as Project Media? The media manager has created references to tons of media I don't want
in there? Did I forget to check or uncheck a box somewhere? Am I doing something wrong? OR am I not understanding what media manager is for? I thought it was a databse with a relational "LINK"
to the media where EVER it is located on any harddrive?

Please help!

The Media Manager will see everything in the project, but it won't save it as a library unless you tell it to. If you don't need this function, just turn the Media Manager off in your Prefs.

Hey Spot!

I thought Media Manager was like a "neat" folder wher I can
store different types of media (which I use often) that is on various harddrives on my computer that I can drag onto the timeline.

Ie. I use a "camera shutter" sound I use all the time, I also use
a certain credit all the time, as well as a video loop and a few other graphics. They are all situated on different drives and folders
in my computer. I thought THAT is waht media manager is all about?

I don't want anything to show up in media manager that I did NOT put in there? Am I still NOT getting it?

Regards,

Alex

It will always show up there if it's in the project. It just won't save. In other words, it's assuming you *might* want to build a library of that media.
And yes, everything else you described is exactly what MM is for. It's just trying to help you, whether you want to be helped or not.

Go into: Options > Preferences and on the General tab, uncheck Save media-usage relationships in active media library and the Media Manager will stop placing your project media in its database.

I use the media manager the same way you want to. I’ve created a database of all my stock footage, stills, and sound fx; and I don’t want Vegas placing anything in that database that I didn’t want there.

I've not yet installed V6, so haven't had a chance to play with MM. How will it handle the situation where I move media on the hard disk? Will I be able to perform the physical move through MM?

Thanks JohnnyRoy, That did it!

Now my next problem, placing media into the media manager
library. Is there another way of doing this? It seems in order to place media files into the library you have to pick a media type and
folder location? The problem is that it will search for and place ALL
"audio" or "pictures" into the library. However, I only want a specific
file to be placed into the library, ie. "End_Credit.jpg

Can this be done?

You can drag-n-drop media right from the Windows explorer. So one option is to do a search in Windows (*.jpg) and then drop the results of the search into the Media Manager.

You cannot do the physical move with Media Manager. It’s just a database of pointers to media locations. But once you move it on your hard drive, the Media Manager will prompt you for the new location and then remember it.
