Why does multicam change the clip appearance?

I've just conducted an interview using two cams. I needed to colour-correct one camera and used AAV ColourLab for that. However, when I combined the clips using VP8 multicam, one of the clips became darker. Any reason why this should happen? How do I prevent this happening. I separated the clips using undo and am just deleting various parts to allow the second cam in. But its much slower than using multicam. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

That's the way it works, any FX applied on events and tracks before creating the multicam track are discarded. This is clearly stated in the help.

It's a PITA to remember but the FX must be applied at the media level, then things work as expected. Can't tell you how often I've had to go back to do this. I always save a pre-multicam version of the veg just in case I forget.

BTW, you can apply the FX at the media level even after the fact. So you need not lose any multicam edits already done. You won't see the effects on the timeline or preview, but they will be there on the rendered video.

this is why i switched to Excalibur for dealing with multicam...that one feature alone for me was worth the price of admission. you can have your clips on the split screen and do your color balancing & correcting there before you edit and they stay true throughout the editing process.

Excalibur has yet another advantage over multicam. The spilt screen exists as a separate track and I've rendered this track for training purposes. The viewer sees all cameras and the selected take is highlited, making it easy to see the editor's selection and what the alternatives were.

Hey thanks guys. I kinda realised after I posted what the problem might be. Its pretty stupid behaviour from Vegas if you ask me. However, I do have Excalibur and will use it.
Thanks so much for the help. What a great forum this is. :)

Ok, as a follow up, I've started with Excalibur. Two Qs please:
1 How to I get the cameras tabs to show (the orange ones)?
2 How do I get the active camera to identify itself?

I do have a video on my site that shows the basic workflow. Generally speaking:

Put the clips on the proper tracks, make sure you NUMBER the tracks appropriately, Get them aligned or add alignment markers and then run the "Sync" tool will will create the PIP view and add everything else as needed.

To get the icons on the toolbar, just double-click a blank area of the toolbar and then add the icons you want to use..

If you're on Vegas Pro 8 or 9, you're really better off using Excalibur 6 which stays open all the time. Plus, it has a camera tab with buttons for each of the cameras so you don't need to add icons to the toolbar.

Hi Edward. Thanks for the response. I have Excalibur 6 but have not used it really. Q's?
1 Why does the active take show a blue rectangle on my laptop but not on my desktop
machine?
2 Where is the video on the site please?

The video was from an earlier version of Excalibur (but the concepts are the same) and is found at www.jetdv.com/excalibur55

When you run the "Sync" tool, one of the options there is the tally color.

NOTE: Running the sync tool also adds a "MasterTally2" track at the bottom. Make sure you do not delete that track or any items on that track.
