Why Does "ProType Titler" Save but when draged another preset inserts?

editman033 wrote on 12/30/2023, 2:09 PM

so basically ive been trying to make more animations for my texts. the original titles and texts is so trash to me, u only have 25 animations and u cant even make ur own animation to save so i turned to protype titler. i used to save it in the past and everything works fine, but now when i save it - i drag the saved preset and it inserts one of my other saved presets or even the default protype titler. can anyone tell me if they know any fix? although when i drag it and it inserts a whole nother preset i can still click the drop down and select the preset i just made but still thats just too unnecessary and i know this is a recent bug because everything used to save perfect before. anyone let me know * OR LET ME KNOW TO EAISLY save text presets using ANYTHING , i want to be able to drag and drop after i finish some nice text animations please there has to be way that no one knows and possibly tht one gem knows or something

@editman033 Yes. I've worked with ProType Titler a lot for my tutorial series. I've found also that the thumbnails not only show the wrong animation sometimes, they also load the wrong preset when you drag onto the timeline. The only way I've found to achieve what you're wanting to do is this. When you've completed you animation, first save it to the titles collection, then name it in the preset field and save the preset.
Now close down VP and relaunch it. When you open the media generators window and select ProType Titler, you should see your new preset with the correct animation. You can then drag it onto the timeline and it should be the correct preset.
Unfortunately, ProType Titler is a deprecated feature and as such, it will not get improved or bug fixed.

Glad I'm not the only one who had this problem but yea still no luck. It's a shame because it was just saving perfectly fine before the Vegas 21 update - I think, and now I randomly decided to use it & it's doing exactly what you said. Guess I'll just do the drag and drop and then use the preset dropdown to adjust it. Unless anyone knows a fix, but yeah as you said it is a depreciated feature so I'm not too annoyed. This might be one of the bugs if anything - If anyone knows any other fixes to try let me know

@editman033 I'm stumped. I've spent several hours trying to figure out what's wrong. From my investigations, it seems as if the link between thumbnails, their names and the presets has been broken somehow.
I created several dummy presets that were empty. When VP was re-launched my existing presets thumbnails showed where the dummy ones names were. If I pulled one of them down, it was the correct one that showed in the animated thumbnail. This was offset from the thumbnail that has the name of the one I'd pulled down.
It actually got worse. I pulled a thumbnail down that had the word Centered in it (one of the defaults) and saved it as 1 Centred. After re-launching VP, the preset named 1 Centred was empty.
I'm going to do more tests to see if I can get to a situation where the animations in the thumbnails reflect the presets when the thumbnail is pulled down onto the timeline. If I can do this, it'll be a case of 'forget about the preset thumbnail name, just look at the animation.

EDIT. I've just saved a preset in VP19 and it's doing the same.

As PTT has not been updated/improved for a very, very long time, and with the many alternative Title creation s/w, from both in-house and 3rd party companies, do you think that the slim personnel staffing resources are as they are, that this will be addressed?

@Jack S - Then why do you persist in your testing for these Presets of a deprecated feature?:

TAXI!

@Grazie Why? Because I'm an inquisitive person. With luck, ProType Titler will be around for a long time and there are loads of users out there that can't afford third party titlers. They're also disappointed with the limitations of the native Titles and Text. If I can figure out what's wrong with the link between thumbnail names, thumbnail animations and actual presets, I'll be a happy bunny. However, that doesn't seem likely.

@editman033 and @Jack S Yup, apart from engaging me, this is a bust. However, I can save Presets and recall them through the VP Preset but not internally to PTT. Also, I'm not getting a Graphic to illustrate/describe just what IS inside that PTT. Horrid. . . .except . . . I just set up a PTT Folder and saved my "Presets" as separate Veggies. I then introduce them as Nests. I can import them as Media, stick 'em on the T/L, and then ALSO edit them, of course as a NEST, save 'em back to my PTT Folder, and then use them.

Look, this is a real Lumpy Workaround for a "feature" that's been deprecated, AND having reminded me of the absolute fandanglement of PTT, which, as it stands is . . . . Horrid!

So, PTTs as Nests.
