Why does text/credits look clean...

in the timeline/generated-media mode, but seem rife with artifacts when I play back the final DV file?

DV compression is likely the culprit
Some ways to avoid this;
Avoid high contrasted titles/glows/shadows
Double the resolution of the text
Render to uncompressed first
Make sure all colors are legal
Reduce opacity by 2%
Avoid serif'd fonts
