windows xp
vegas9.0c
quad core (q660)

the system was totally fine for the longest time. i used v8 happily. then suddenly it started crashing when working on projects that have been fine for a long time.
On all these projects I only add and mix sound to someone elses video. I suspected that the latest quicktime was the cause, and someone said try rolling back to an older version or update to 9.0c.. and ive tried both.. after getting 9.0c the system was fine for a few days, but now it has started doing this again.

any ideas of what i can try?

it doesnt happen to all projects, but this one particular episode is now crashing all the time..
there's no special plugins or anything strange in that episode that makes it different from all the rest.
ive tried making a version where i removed all the video from the project and the pool.. but it still crashes on minimizing.

one thing that worked every now and then when this happened in v8, was to close and reopen the video preview, but that doesnt seem to help here.

some very basic ideas.....

a. have you a restore point prior to the problem arising?

b. have you installed any programs recently - it's amazing what seemingly harmless programs can do. especially quicktime!

c. what exactly is the project? format? etc.,

as i tell my students, if it was working once, it WILL work again - problem is it could mean a complete reinstall....

good luck

afterthought - do you have a lot of audio plugins, vsf, etc., i found some caused problems in vegas 7, and since then haven't installed ones that i know to be a bit shonky.....

:( (thats a no, hehe)

only quicktime update.. but uninstalling it didnt help. an older version didnt help.. reinstalling.. same.

Myself and two other colleagues make all the sound and music for 10 minute animated episodes.
I use Vegas as a final assembly station for all the bits and pieces. I use no plugins inside of Vegas, just work on the levels and panning (and timing) here.
I get the episodes sent to me as mov files encoded with sorenson. But I do nothing with that other than look at it, what we produce is just the sound mix.

The show is probably coming to a TV station near you :) If vegas will behave.. hehe. Disney distributes it.

I have tons of plugins, but i use none of them inside Vegas for this project.
In v8 I used IKs meter plugin, but that one stopped working in v9 for some
reason... anyone have some suggestions for good meters that work in v9?
For this I use Vegas as a final assembly station or whatever to call it :)

I was able to "rescue" the old projects by bouncing out stems, starting a new project from scratch in v9 and then just importing the tracks. Not ideal, but I am working again at least.
So could there be something strange leftover from the v8 projects that also crashes v9.. I have no idea what that would be, but the crash is 100% consistent in its behaviour.

But so far, as long as the projects are now "fresh" in v9, things work better :)
