Why does Vegas keep crashing on me....Auuuuggghhh

rebelguy wrote on 10/21/2008, 10:11 PM
Here's the short version of the events that led to my current situation. I was running Vegas 8.0A perfectly. One of the projects in my video class is to put together a remix to a music video. I had a couple of DVDs which I purchased from Best Buy to work with. As this is for educational purposes then there are no copyright issues. I imported the videos into Vegas directly. Things worked perfectly for a few hours then i started getting crashes. I decided to update to the current version to see if it would make a difference. Things actually got worse. Now I couldn't open up the old project and the program would crash whenever I tried to import the same DVD.

I contacted Sony and they suggested removing all Sony software products and doing a clean install. 2 hours later I was up and running. The outcome...same problem.

I recently upgraded my cpu from a dual core to a quad core. Would this cause a problem?

I also saved the error message. Maybe someone can make something of it. Other than that...any ideas as to what may be wrong?

There was another "access violation" thread around here somewhere and it turned out to be a conflict with part of a anti virus program... suggest you look for a software/hardware conflict somewhere.

Thanks for the response. I will take a look into that. If anyone else has any other info please let me know.

did you reinstall the OS when you upgraded the CPU? I had to, nothing but troubles when I didn't.

This is a problem with the mcdddec.dll which is the Main Concept Dolby Digital Decoder. Any file with Dolby Digital audio will crash Vegas 8.0c.

I took this problem to tech support and after a week and a half, they told me it was a bug that they would tend to.

So my only solution was to uninstall 8.0c and to reinstall 8.0b.
