Why does vegas record counter stop at 3 hours 6 minutes?

It keeps recording, but the counter is stuck at 03:06:xx.xxx.

I have been recording a lot of large files lately, and having vegas (3.0c) vaporize them, the classic file disappears bug.

I never saw this before on my old machine, same version. Is there something in the settings that causes this? or is it more likey to happen when you get into the 'frozen counter' mode

It sounds interesting. I think you may have found a bug. Seeing that most people don't record for over 3 hours, I'm sure Vegas hasn't been tested to that extreme much. Have you tried recording in the w64 format? It sounds like you may be reaching the 2 gig file size limit of standard .wav files. See a similar topic on this board. "Recording>2 gig and Vegas"

In the case that you did find a bug, older versions usually don't get updated for fixes. It would be interesting to try and repro this in v4.0. Can you give further details of your setup and more specifics of what you are doing?

This is in Vegas 3 or Vegas 4?

vegas 3.
I'm not too thrilled on 4, cant remember if VV4 did this or not. vv4 seemed to vaporize my files a lot more often, so I went back to 3, and it seems better.

hardware: vx pocket, wave classic.

For some reason this card must not be full duplex with the wave driver, it wont record under vv4 unless I use the asio driver.

Vaporising files is not a known feature of VV3 or V4, or a bug that could be called 'verified'. Could it be that you have some Windows or hard drive problem ? Or are the files getting beyong your OS or WAV spec limitations ?

If you are using VV3, what is it that you are 'not thrilled' about in V4 ?

yes it is, check out:

fo rme, it seems to be much more likely with long files.

FWIW, vegas 4 counter works correctly, and doesnt stop at 3:06, but my vx pockets dont work under the wave driver since theyve removed 'simultaneous play and record' from the menu (see:)

That's pretty funny, Geoff you even posted in that thread.

Vegas 3: Yes, this was discovered with some wave drivers. Basically some drivers didn't report position correctly after a long period of time. Vegas 4 fixes this problem by doing things a bit differently.

There is no work around in Vegas 3.
