Why does VV3 access the internet?

akaRadar wrote on 11/21/2001, 8:43 PM
I have downloaded and registered VV3. Everytime I open VV3 it trys to connect to the internet. The URL is:
12.30.156.103 I know this belongs to SF, but why does it need to connect every time. It seems to work even if I don't allow it to connect. VV2 or VV3 (demo) did not seem to do this. It does not ever ask me to enter anything, just seems to try and send something to SF.

How did you determine this? Did Norton catch it? If so, just setup a rule in Norton to block it. Sonic has no business doing this. I would be interested in hearing a reply from Sonic!

Hello,
The program does this because it looks for updated information to notify you of. If you don't want it to, you can diable it in options by deselecting "Use Netnotify to keep you updated", and it will stop.

Thanks,
That was it. I unchecked netnotify and seems to have stopped it. I use "ZoneAlarm" by Zonelabs.com to monitor my PC at all times. It's on an always on DSL line. I would recommend it to anyone who's PC connects to the internet. The best part is it's free. Of coarse there is a Pro version, but I've done well with the free version.
Thanks, Bill

Hello again,

The only problem with disabling Net Notify is, you miss out on notifications of Vegas News.
BTW: I like Zone Alarm as well, you can't beat it for free.

See ya, Rockit

Sounds like a good reason. But I personally would prefer a dialog box to pop up every thirty days or so and ASK me if I want VV to check for updates.

Does this apply to Video Factory 2.0? My system doesn't have an internet connection; every time I shutdown I get a message that the task "Downloading Software" is still active and I have to manually shut it down... Then when I reboot I get a "resuming software download..." message in the task box. Always wondered what was causing this. I see that Video Factory 2.0 has that preference, and it was checked.

I unchecked it, closed the 'downloading software' task, and rebooted. Still got the 'resuming software download...' task running.

On that system I was also running the Vegas VIdeo 2.0 demo, but I don't seem to see that setting in the preferences. I've uninstalled the Vegas Video demo, but still get the 'downloading software' task.

Guess I'll try the software described above and see if it will isolate where the task is trying to get to...

Thanks
Steve

Hello Steve,
This sounds like you have a downloading software installed on your system that didn't finish a download, and is trying to resume. I don't think this has anything to do with VV, So try to find a downloading program on your system, and go into settings and disable reminders, and delete the partial download that didn't finish.

See ya, Rockit
