Why doesn't Spherize FX affect Child Tracks?

What I'm trying to achieve is a simple/quick way to have a grid of numbers being "magnified as the spherize "roams" across the face of the grid of numbers.

Allow me to expose my ignorance on this. Maybe, if I should get a reply, I will then understand why.

. .ok .. .

I am experimenting wanting to be able to apply an Fx to a Parent track and have the underlying tracks child tracks affected BY this FX.

"T" = Track
Grid Point Intersect relates to the intersection of the Preview Grid pattern with the first intersect being top left, the next being to the right of this and so on scanning Left to Right and then beginning again on the next line down . .

Ok, at the moment I have :

T1: Sony Checkerboard
T2 (Child) : Text with a number "1" at Grid Point Intersect 1
T3 (Child) : Text with a number "2" at Grid Point Intersect 2
T4 (Child) : Text with a number "3" at Grid Point Intersect 3
T5 (Child) : Text with a number "4" at Grid Point Intersect 4
T6 (Normal): Sony Solid Colour "White" - this to act as a background.

I have applied the Fx "Spherize" to T1 hoping to have the underlying tracks to be spherized. This isn't happening. When I move the spherize fx over T1 I can see the Checkerboard deforming - good. But what I don't see is the underlying tracks being deformed too.

As this is NOT happening I find this both surprising and interesting.

Any thoughts on this puzzle?

TIA,

Grazie

Tom! You total Star-Man!

I applied at the Project Level AS A NESTED veg! Sooooo... I could retain the underlining formats and compositing - and adjust if need be. BUT the real bonus has been not needing to render out the project and STILL see this happen at 25fps - ok auto PREVIEW quality, but it is there . .thanks Tom!

. . .and . . I just discovered that allowing the Fx - "Spherize" - to roll, I could then adjust the settings for spherize and have the K/Fs automatically appear in sequence on its T/L.

Nested vegs are our friend (especially when Sony fixes the marker/nested veg length problem)!

Grazie,

You had the right idea, but missed one little step.

To apply the filter using the parent track, click on the little triangle (pre/post toggle) by the FX name next to the keyframe controller for that effect.

Indeed.

I didn't "miss" anything! I just didn't even know about that one. I bet Tom would have explicitly suggested this one, if he knew about it. I wonder how many "others" knew of this one?

So, I was on the correct track with my approach. Why, IMHO, does Vegas appear to hide these fundamental and truly valuable functions and talents? I guess I'll never understand that one.
