Why doesn't this work?

i'm creating a DVD where the 2 linkable options i have are set up as text/link buttons on the main menu (Main) instead of on a sub/scene menu. didn't really think this made a difference. what i want is for each chapter to return to Main after it completes but it doesn't seem to work. the first chapter just continues right into the 2nd. for both links i have the following..
Action
command: Link
destination: avi file rendered in VMS
destination chapter: correct chapter for that link (only 2)
End Action
command: Link
destination: Menu
destination item: Start
destination button: Default

any idea what's wrong? do i need a submenu for this to work?

In DVD Arch Studio: When you select the media for your first chapter, look at the media timeline. Zoom in and bring the "End Point" to the left so it ends at the end of your first chapter.

Sorry I can't be more specific about how to do this step-by-step, but I'm not at a computer with Vegas installed. Hopefully that's at least a nudge in the right direction.

You could try using playlists - have a look at the DVDAS manual (the downloadable full DVDA Pro manual goes in to a bit more detail).

"Zoom in and bring the "End Point" to the left so it ends at the end of your first chapter."

i tried this and i noticed the same thing when changing the End Action properties - that whatever options i set for chapter 1 also get set for chapter 2 automatically. don't know why - VMS does it for me. so when i set the out point for chapter 1, chapter 2 now shows up in red saying 'broken chapter'.
i would think that the end action stuff would be enough given the apparent meaning of those properties. i'm gonna try adding a submenu. thanx..

still need help with this.. i realized that my assumption of what End Action was used for was wrong (it controls the menu not the chapter) but i still can't get past the problem where changing one set of in/out points for one chapter automatically changes the other chapter as well in effect resulting in 2 chapters that begin and end at the same place. not good.
i should say i have text only links/titles/whatever on my main menu (Main) - no submenu. would it make a difference having a picture/text combination link? this should be easier than this.

well that was interesting. i actually learned something. my project overview window originally looked like this..
Project name
Menu
Menu (page 1)
button for chapter 1 (via insert empty button)
button for chapter 2 (via insert empty button)
(both link to different chapters of media below)
Media (main video via insert media)

this works fine when you want the first chapter to run directly into the 2nd but it does not work for the scenario i described. looking at the Help, it says to accomplish what i want, you have to create a title for the first chapter by inserting Picture compilation, Music compilation, Media or Playlist - no button option. i inserted my video and a link was created automatically. i did a copy/paste to create a second link. since i didn't need the Media anymore in its original place (2nd level underneath project name), i deleted it from the project leaving just the menu and the 2 chapter links. now i had this..

Project name
Menu
Menu (page 1)
Chapter 1 (media link)
Chapter 2 (media link)

this did it. i was now able to set the in/out points for each chapter separately without one affecting the other. probably because i now had 2 references to the same video whereas before i only had 1. just a guess but it works.
