Hi, I have 2 questions:

1) When I render an mpeg in vf the final movie sounds get messed up and off cue from the original audio.

2) I re-installed Video Factory on my computer and before i had the option of 3 mbps wmv video format to choose from and now I can only do 1 mbps wmv format . . . why?

-Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
=)

Let's do a little troubleshooting. What is version of VF are your running. You can check this by launching the program and clicking on help and about.

From what I remember, if you have an older version of VF, it only has a plugin for WMV 7.0 whose max template is for 1 Mbs.

Version 1.0 (Build 21)

Did you ever have Video Factory 2 or Vegas Video 2/3 installed on your computer (either demo or full program)? I'm sure your problem has to do with having the older WMV plugin.

As far as your MPEG problem goes, I'm guessing you are using the Ligos plugin. Where did you get the MPEG files? Are they MPEG-1 or MPEG-2?

I think they are mpeg-2

Yep, I too had a problem with MPEG-2 files staying in sync. Never solved the problem unfortunately. Problem seems to be with Ligos filters supplied by Sonic Foundry for playback of MPEG-2 files. The good news is that files that seemed out of sync with Ligos actually played in sync using Ravisent filters supplied by ATI (my video card maker).

IS there any way i can get the filters that you have?

Unfortunately, I don’t know of any free MPEG-2 codecs because of the royalty/licensing fees companies must pay for using MPEG-2 technology.

The easiest way to get a decent MPEG-2 decoder is to buy a software DVD player like WinDVD or PowerDVD. Even if you don’t have a DVD-ROM, you can still use the MPEG-2 codec included with the player. Many video and sound cards bundle this software. In any case, you can buy an OEM copy for less than $10.

However, since you have VF 1, I also don’t know what effect overriding the Ligos decoder would have on VF. This is less of a problem with VF2 since Sonic Foundry switched to MainConcept’s encoder.

Basically, I think you must be willing to experiement. I would start by downloading a demo of VF2 and installing it. I think this is the way you got the 3Mbs setting for Windows Media Video. I would also check through your video card software and see if you have a DVD player. Install that to get another MPEG-2 codec on your computer.

As I remember, someone mentioned that this used to be a problem in versions prior to the current version which is 2.0c.

I'm running 2.0c and things seem to run really well with this version.
