Why is an Administrator account required?

Why is an Administrator account required to run DVD Architect 1.0 under Windows 2000?

And more importantly, is there any way to work around this?

Thanks,
Lynn

P.S. When logged on as Administrator, DVD architect works PERFECTLY. Moreover, even when logged as restricted user (my preferred mode of work), I can perform *most* of DVD Architect's functions. I ran however into a dead end when I tried to actually *burn* the DVD (the drive is simply not found). I work around this problem by re-login as Administrator, but frankly I hate doing this, as this is not safe or recommended mode of operation (I can delete system files by mistake, trigger malicious trojan horses/viruses, etc.)

I'd think that as a "linuxlover," you would be familiar with this kind of situation. ;-) IIRC, by default regular Linux accounts can't burn either -- until they're set up for it.

Try the intructions at this page and see if that applies to your situation. (Give it a few seconds to load -- it will jump to the correct spot on the page.)

bStro, thanks for your quick reply. I tried the link you gave me, but it leads to and error page ("The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.")

Can you provide a corrected URL?

Thanks,
Lynn

Sorry, whenever I go back and edit a post, URLs get a bit fuddled. Fixed it in my other post -- try it again.

The tecnical reason for that is that administrative rights are necessary to make SPTI call (DVDA is using SPTI) - you can look at this "http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;241374" or any other similar similar article if you are looking for more technical details. Normally, it is not a big limitaiton. If you ABSOLUTELY need to burn from non-administrative account, contact Sony technical support, explain your situation and ask them to send you so called "SPTI service" binaries - this service will help you to workaround the SPTI limitation.
