Why is project too big?

I have a 1 hr 53 minute project of movie film transfer that has music added to it. I have tried several different options to prepare the file for DVD but no matter what I've tried thus far, the project continues to be over 6G. I have read the manual and tried for 3 days to get this project completed so I can get on with two more of the same length for this customer. This first part has only 7 chapters with simple titles but the remaining 2 parts will have more chapters and titles. I have to believe that there is some simple answer that I am just overlooking but I am baffled and FRUSTRATED! I sure would appreciate any help that anyone can offer.
Thanks so much!

In order to get that much video on a DVD you'll need to lower your average bitrate down to around 5,200 Kbps - assuming you don't have a fancy motion menu with animated thumbnails, in which case you'd need to drop down even further. Lots of chapter menus can also add to the load.

The default bit rate when you render from Vegas is 6,000Kbps average - so you'll need to click on the custom button from the render as dialog, select the video tab and specify the new lower average bit rate.

Also be aware that DVDA isn't always that great about project size estimates - so once you get your MPG file down in size, you may need to try doing an actual prepare on the project (if DVDA is still telling you too big) - then total the size of all the files in the VIDEO_TS folder; if the total is <= 4.37 GB then you're good to go.
