Why is the Edit->Switches->Lock function greyed out?

Hi all, I'm a complete newbie working my way through the tutorials and I've hit a problem already!

I'm doing tutorial 1, where you're meant to delete a section from track 3 (a wav file) whilst you have tracks 1 and 2 locked so you don't delete a chunk from them. I've tried everything I can think of to lock the tracks, but whenever I go to the edit menu, I can go to switches, and it will give me a list of "Mute, Lock, Loop" and a few others, but they are ALL greyed out and unclickable. If I try right clicking on the track header box thing I can again go to witches, but all it gives me is "Mute" and "Solo" and on the audio tracks "Invert Phase", no others.

I tired restarting the program, and restarting my PC, but they make no difference. Like I said, I'm totally new to the program, the help files don't give any reasons why the "Lock" function might be disabled, and I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO NEXT!!!! Please help if you can! Thanks.

Hi aww,

You might try right-clicking on the first event in a track and use the "select all events to end" option, then you can apply the Lock switch to all selected events by right clicking on the first again.

Well, that's a good start! :) I can now use the Edit->Switches->Mute/Lock/Loop function from the top mennu bar, but it seems it will only lock or unlock all three tracks simultaneously! If I select track one, then lock it, I can then select track 2 only to find that if I go Edit->Switches it already shows as locked. If I unlock track two, and reselct track 1, I find it is now unlocked. Right clicking on each track still does not show the "Lock" option under the Switches selection . . . is there anything else I can try?

Hi,

Here's a thought: repeat the previous directions; but before you do, use Shift-Ctrl-A to de-select all events/tracks.
