why no hdv over firewire monitor?

look, i'm probably being naive, but i'd like to know (in simple terms, if possible), why we can't monitor hdv over firewire - as we do sd.

i mean, we can capture (albeit without batch), and we can even print to tape, so why can't we monitor?

Because Vegas would have to construct the long-GOP MPEG2 stream and compress the audio to MPEG on the fly, which is much more difficult and CPU-intensive than just spitting out DV video and PCM audio.
