why opening veggies with 'trial' version?

ushere wrote on 6/27/2012, 6:15 PM
just noticed that my veggies are being opened with 'vegas pro 11 TRIAL'.

i did install as trial at beginning to check everything was working on properly on my new ssd, but registered almost immediately.

what on earth is going on?

btw. everything is working ok otherwise.

Not sure, I understand, but in recent other threads this was discussed as just changing the windows association description for file type of .veg file. The descrip is stuck on the trial association in the registry -it just needs to be changed to whatever - Sony 11?

thanks for that,

you wouldn't happen to know where in the registry?

i have done the obvious and 'redirected' the veggies to open with 11 (using the 'open with' dialogue and pointing to vegas), but it hasn't changed anything.

i mean this is no big deal, just an irritating annoyance that shouldn't be happening.....

You escape the registry - this way - go to Windows interface and change the file association setting - that auto updates the registry.

I see the same thing.

If I open a windows explorer window and alt-enter a veg file to get its properties its "type of file" = Vegas Pro 11.0 TRIAL (.veg)

It also says it opens with Vegas Pro and shows the VP11 icon. I can change it to VP10 and back but it doesn't change it. The phrase is somewhere in the Registry.

It doesn't affect anything, it just offends my sense of order. I just now searched for it in the Registry and changed it. Everything still works.

Maybe avoided if the 'Trial" version was uninstalled before the registered version installed, rather than an 'update' install.

using explorer properties, etc., DOESN'T work. it still comes up 'trial'.

i'll search the reg for it.

geoff, appreciate the thought, but surely whatever method of installing - if registered it should cancel the 'trial' showing up?

you wouldn't happen to know where in the registry?File associations are always in two places in the registry. The first one tells you where the second one is. The second one has the actual information.

So, you start by opening HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. Under that you find the extension, including the leading dot. So, in our example, you look under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.veg and see its default name, which in my registry is Vegas110, but can be something else in yours.
That tells me to look at HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Vegas110, where the actual information is stored. In my registry the default name of that key is Vegas Pro 11.0... and that is what shows in the explorer as the description of all my veggies.
