Why re-render again, why?

I spent 4 hours rendering a basic 35-min mpeg-2 video (1.56GB) on Vegas 9 -- straight through with no chapters, just one little instrumental track in the beginning. Now, when I want to burn this on DVD-A5, it re-renders again and it will take another hour or so.

I am looking to create a DVD movie consisting of a 5-part trip that I took. Each will be approximately 20 minutes average. I am hoping this will not take two days time just to back up an hour or so worth of memories.

Couldn't figure out what's wrong here, but something is definitely not right.

Use the appropriate DVD Architect template in Vegas to render the video.
Use the AC-3 template in Vegas to render the audio, keeping the same name as the video.
Import the video in DVD Architect. The audio will follow. Be sure your project properties are correct. That's all there is to it.

I couldn't find a way to do this. When I select make movie, it just gives me options for videos and I couldn't find anything else for audio, let alone ac3

If you output a DVD-quality MPEG from your Vegas project and use that as your source video for DVD Architect, rendering time (since you don't have any menus) should be less than 10 minutes.

Use the "Save as type" dropdown list to access the various codecs.

The DVD Architect templates are MPEG-2
The AC-3 templates are Dolby Digital
This thoroughly covered in the help and tutorials.

If you just leave it set to the default AVI of course it will recompress.

Sorry if I haven't mention this but I am using Vegas 9 & 10 Movie Studio and not the 'Pro'. I still couldn't find a way to save the audio part to AC-3. Do I do all this in Vegas Movie Studio or in DVD Architect?

When I load a project, I choose PAL DVD MPEG-2 from the template. I deleted the video part and tried saving just the audios (is it music & voice???), when I hit Make Movie and save to file, it doesn't give me any options as to choose ac-3 or whatever.

How can I save a separate AUDIO file in to ac-3? I can't seem to find a way to do this.

Please read carefully:

Please use the DVD Architect PAL template to render the video, NOT the DVD PAL template.

ALL of the render options, including Dolby Digital AC3, can be found under Make Movie->Advance Options, OR Project->Render As.

But since it is a short DVD with no menus, I wonder why you don't just burn a DVD from the timeline?

I figured it out, but still a newbie and VERY GREEN to this 'complexed' software.

I wasn't sure what you meant by DVD Architect Template, I thought everything from the drop-down box ARE 'DVD Architect' related templates. I read somewhere and they said do not use regular PAL or NTSC but to choose a 'DVD Architect VIDEO STREAM' (Pal or NTSC), I chose 'DVD-A PAL Widescreen Video Stream'. All is well now.

Regarding the disc:
Actually I will be combining a few 20-25 minute segments into a DVD that will eventually ended up to about 1.5 plus hours (with full menu, chapters, music, captions, etc...).

Nice! Should of send me this one in the first place...but hey, we needed a thread to pass the day anyway.
One thing I noticed in the video after he rendered the mpeg-2 clip, he immediately clicked on 'Make Movie" to open another screen for the audio file.
I rendered mine with the same screen by hiding the audio while I render the video and vice versa.
