Why should I buy Vegas 4.0 for audio?

Druidrum wrote on 10/6/2003, 12:42 AM

I am interested in obtaining a copy of vegas audio 2.0. Until this point I have been using that light version of vegas that I recieved with my purchase of soundforge and acid. I really love it's ease of use. I am ready for an upgrade. I would like to use more tracks and be able to record more than 2 tracks simultaneously (the limit for the light version.) Is there any reason I should buy a new version of vegas video 4.0 or should I go ahead and buy an old version of vegas audio for less $ on ebay? I will not be using the program for video only audio. I am kind of pissed SF oops I mean Sony discontinued Vegas Audio. I really think it's an awesome program for audio and the others (sonar, cubase, etc. ) haven't gotten it right yet.

Vegas 4.0 has so many benefits over any previous "audo-only" version that it's a no-brainer. Go for 4.

"I am kind of pissed SF oops I mean Sony discontinued Vegas Audio."

Vegas Audio was never discontinued. When Vegas Audio 2.0 was released there were 2 versions. "Vegas Audo 2.0" and "Vegas Video 2.0". The ONLY difference between these 2 programs is that Vegas Video had unlimited Video Tracks, compared to Vegas Audio only having one. This led to some confusion as to which was the better version to get. I am strictly an audio user and dable in the Video editing on occassion. I chose Vegas Video. Too elliminate some of the confusion, the "name" Vegas Audio was dropped, thus Vegas Video v3.0 was exclusively released. Most users where also confused by this as you are, thus saying, "What happened to 'Vegas Audio'?" Nothing has been dropped from the original Vegas Audio feature list and new audio features have been added with each new release. The problem is that an app named "Vegas Video", really tends you to believe it's not an audio program. So the next step was in v4.0, where it is now just named "VEGAS V4.0".

So in-short, Vegas Audio has not been dropped, it's just gone through some bad name changes which confused everyone.

Thanks for the clarification Rednroll,

I wish that the home recording world knew about this. Why doesn't Vegas get reviewed in any of the recording magazines anymore. When a new version of Sound Forge or Acid is released its all over the press. Can't SF/Sony clear this up? Do they think they can't compete with other software like Sonar, Cubase, etc. I wish they would expand their user group.

Could someone explain other benefits of 4.0 over 2.0? I don't use surround sound.

If you really want to know the details (there are many) then I would suggest looking at the features page on the site. However, in my view, the short answer to your question is: Everything! Whatever Vegas offered in 2.0 is now so much better that it's not even a relevant question to me. Why not download the demo and see for yourself?

One more question. Can I expect the stability that Vegas Pro/2.0 is known for with Vegas 4.0. I am so sick of using sonar and having it crash.

Well,
That's a question, where if you ask 10 different people you'll get 10 different responses. V3.0 was very solid, some people have had stability problems, when moving from 3.0 to 4.0. Other people have praised how stable v4.0 is. Personally, I believe it all has to do with your setup, mostly the sound card, and video card if their drivers are properly implemented. I have had no problems with v4.0 on my system, but then again, I was part of the pre-beta test team and got to report any issues I found on my system, before v4.0 ever got released.

What Sound Card do you have? You can probably get some good feedback from other users as too how well v4.0 has worked with the same card.
