why such low bitrates on AVI with MP3 audio?

For the web I usually output an uncompressed AVI file and then use QT Pro to export the uncompressed AVI into a web-optimized MPEG-4. However, I have an XviD codec installed, and I'd rather just export using Vegas straight to XviD and use MP3 or MP4 audio. Unfortunately, there is no MP4 (or MPEG Layer 4, or AAC) audio option in the dropdown box, and when I choose MP3 there is no bitrate higher than about 54 kbps at 22100 Hz.

Is it possible to enable a higher mp3 bitrate in Vegas? I have registered the mp3 and mainconcept mpeg plugins, so I don't know what's wrong.

I can render the video and audio separately and then put them together later if I need to but I reallllllly don't want to have to do that.

- vegas does a better job than QT pro in rendering for the web ..

- QT mpeg4 codec is not very good really at all.

- xvid is not a web format really (though a good quality highly compressed format) as not many people will want to install a codec they never heard of or know where to even find it OR even know which of the 10 variations is the best one ..

- you render to xvid in vegas if you want (though you can not do 2 pass xvid as you really should) , and you render to mp3 in vegas as a separate step ..
you join them by using virtualdub ..

Normally for best quality XVID you would frame serve (or render to a avi file) to a xvid encoder and do a 2 pass encode ..
