Why VEGAS detects less RAM than the computer has?

Lukas-Holas wrote on 4/29/2021, 1:34 AM

Hello guys,

any idea why VEGAS pro 17 detects less RAM than the computer has? I have 64 GB (8x8), I can see it in system (windows 10). But in video preferences: Dynamic RAM preview is max avaliable only 32 768 MB. I´ve never changed number of RAMs since the Vegas instalation.

Thank you

Lukas

Dynamic RAM Preview is something else than available amount of Ram and will mostly being used at previewing of a small part of the timeline as it is.

j-v Yes, I understand that, however on previous PCs the maximum was always equal to the number of RAM´s.

@Lukas-Holas Is this a problem for you?

@Lukas-Holas AFAIK the value assigned to Dynamic RAM preview then becomes reserved for that purpose only. If you were able to assign all of your available RAM to dynamic RAM preview how would anything else run?

Like I said. I understand how it works and I don´t want to set it on maximum. The question is, why Vegas detects only half of avaliable RAM. I have notebook with same version of VEGAS and 16 GB RAM and detects all of them. Ofcourse I will never set it on max. So why am I interested in that? Because based on this, I assume that Vegas does not use the full potential of RAM for other operations.

@Lukas-Holas That might well be a false assumption. Another assumption might be that it’s intentionally limiting the amount of memory you can see, set, to best maintain stability of the system.

@Lukas-Holas look at my reply here on how to increase this limit https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/memory-allocation-in-vegas-18-pro--128068/

As other said, it will not help going above 32G anyway.

Thanks for linking the video! It's a semi advanced test on adding ram, dynamic ram values, and why VEGAS's chokes up. Of course if I wanted to go in to massive detail, i would have had to make like 64 renders while changing all sorts of settings with cpu cores, clock speeds, single and dual channel ram, etc. But for all intensive purposes, the video explains a good amount.
