Widescreen from QT not being recognized

I am using Vegas 6.

I have digital widescreen video taken from a Sony TRV-310 in QuickTime DV file format. The video plays back widescreen in various viewers on both the PC and a Mac. However, Vegas sees it as 4:3 ratio. Trying to change the aspect ratio in the project property settings only creates a wide screen format but does not stretch the video out to cover the new available space. I just get two vertical black bars on the side.

I can't recapture the video on anything by the Mac, so I'm stuck with Quicktime dv capture format.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Yes,
RClick the video in Project Media and under Properties change the aspect ratio of it there.

Also make sure you have the latest QuickTime version installed, current version is 7.3. There was a problem in an earlier QuickTime (7.1?) that played back widescreen as squished. Double check by playing back your source media in the QuickTime Player, just to be sure it plays back with the proper aspect ratio.
