widescreen HD

When setting up the parameters for a new project in Vegas 5, I notice there are options for HD 720-30p (1280 x 720) as well as HD 1080-30p (1920 x 1080). Should I use either of these settins to create a wide screen project instead of the widescreen setting that is offered above these in 720 x 480? The widescreen adjustments are new to me and I could use as much informatino as possible from start to completion (DVD).

Thanks

Typically, you will match the project settings always to your original footage. The best way to do so is to go into project properties. Then you see in the line "template" the symbol for "match media setting". Choose that, and match your material to the project properties.

Typically, for NTSC you will have either the template "HDV 720 30p" or "HDV 1080-60i".

If your goal is to create a DVD Video that can be played on a typical set top player, then you cannot use the HD settings. If you live in NTSCland, then you'll want to pick one of the 720x480 settings for widescreen.

If you are looking to author HD content that can be played by something like Windows Media player (that is, in a computer, not on a typical set top player), then you can use the HD settings. Of course in authoring HD content you won't be using DVD Architect.
