Widescreen project plays back 4:3 in Quicktime

I have a projhect filmed in HDV and edited in 16:9 throughout. I need to render it to mp4 to match the client's needs. In both Main Concept and Sony mp4 renders I see the project rendering in 16:9 and I get perfect 16:9 playback in VLC Media Player and in Windows Media Player. However if I play back in Quicktime (klatest version of QT Pro) the playback is 4:3 squished, ie anamorphic. How does this happen? How can I render so I get 16:9 playback in uicktime?
Thanks!
David

I jjust tried Sony Internet 1920x1080 25P and it plays 16:9 in QT. I'd still love to know why the Main Concept and Sony 1440x 1080 renders don't play 16:9 in QT but do in VLC and WMPlayer.

The answer is as old as QuickTime...the embedded aspect ratio may always be correct - but playing back under various scenarios of QuickTime players does not mean playback will be auto at the embedded ratio.

It has been the history of QuickTime since day 1.
