Widescreen questions

I am wanting to insert 4:3 footage (640x480) into a widescreen project (768x480). The import works perfectly, but it leaves a vertical band on each side of the video. I want to move the video to the left hand edge and use the empty space on the right for text graphics. But the bad thing is that I can move the video around, but it never goes all the way to the side. It crops behind the black bars. I can off "maintain aspect ratio" and it will fill the screen, but it also distorts the original video.

The way I created the project was by opening a new document and setting the movie size to 768-480.

Any ideas.

I am having the same issue, thinking I was dopey or something. Hopefully we'll get the answer.

On a second note, If you're creating widescreen for DV or Mpeg-2, you may want to do the standard size of 720x480, with anamorphic Pixel aspect ratio. There are presets for new project for this.

This will be compliant with the DV or DVD format, as oppose to 768x480, which I'm not ware of as a DV standard.

you can place the 4:3 event on its own track and use track motion to move it to the left side.
