Will Magix Vegas 14 import older projects?

paul_w wrote on 8/27/2016, 4:19 AM

I ask this because we are seeing the removal from scripting of the brand name 'Sony' from v14

That got me thinking (possibly too hard) that this may also affect older Vegas .Veg project files. Assuming they also include the word Sony in plugin information and FX types within the file.

Maybe someone could clarify this. Do we need a conversion tool? Maybe v14 will just import anyway..

Thank you.

As far as I know you will be fine. The plug-ins will be renamed but you won't be affected. This is because Vegas Pro uses the internal GUID (Globally Unique Identifier) to save a pointer to the plug-in. This is why when you move a project to another computer and a plug-in is missing, Vegas Pro can't tell you what plug-in is missing (very frustrating) because all it has is some number like eed3f301-e0b0-4741-9ce3-f7b812457847. So it doesn't matter what the plug-ins are called, Vegas Pro will find them as long as their GUID hasn't changed.

Good point. Yes i have seen GUID pointers in .veg project files. Its been a long time since i looked at one in a Hex editor but seem to recall plain text in there too with plugins named with Sony prefixes. Lets just hope the change to v14 doesn't break the whole thing. It sounds like it should work, although i have no idea what naming text we will end up with.

And just to confirm, yes it does. Tested a v13 project in v14.
