If you're running xp32 or vista 32 then 3.2 GB is the ballpark max RAM you'll be able to address. Adding RAM above 4GB won't make any difference unless you run a 64-bit OS.

Download the freeware RamPage utility. It sits in your System Tray and tells you how much ram is just sitting around idle at any time. I think you'll be amazed how little of your 4GB of ram is ever used. Right now I'm running 2GB of ram, and even with a project in Vegas I almost never use even 1GB. This is on an XPpro system.

(Note: there is a tweaked file you need to use with RamPage for systems with more than 1GB of memory. It's needed in order to show the little teeny tiny numbers in the System Tray icon. It's on the same website.)
