Will other CD burning software coexist peacefully with CDA?

Hi, all -

I'm new to the forum, having just bought CDA. I will be installing it on a Sony Vaio GR-300 series laptop with a Plextor PX-708UF external DVD+/-R(W) burner (connected via FireWire). My OS is Win2k SP2. Currently installed are SAWStudioLite, Sound Forge 6, ACID Pro 4, and Ulead DVD MovieFactory 3 Disc Creator. I also have Nero v6.3.1.6, which I have not yet installed.

I purchased CDA because I was very dissatisfied with the quality of the audio CDs burned with Ulead. (Ulead does do a pretty good job burning DVDs from previously encoded MPEG2 files, however.) I have used Nero in the past; it did a decent job burning audio CDs, as well as data CDs, but I'm looking for more "tweakability" on the audio end...hence, CDA.

I would like to know if CDA, Nero, and Ulead will coexist peacefully on the same PC. I do not plan to use more than one of these apps simultaneously; each will be run separately on an as-needed basis...CDA for audio CDs, Nero for data CDs, and Ulead for DVDs.

As an aside, I have used Roxio 6 with success [believe it or not]. It has since been uninstalled; I will not even attempt to coax it to coexist [forget about "peacefully"] with any other CD burning app <period>.

Thanks in advance for your help and sharing of any past experiences with any of the above apps.

CDA certainly does nothiing naughty wrt sleeper applets or DLL-dickery. I have Nero on a CDA OC and they seem to co-exist OK, though Nero does seem to leave stuff running whether in use or not.

Good to know Nero will play nice. I'll do a before/after check of my Task List apps and processes to see what the Nero install adds to the mix...then I'll end whatever Nero processes are running when not using Nero. I had to do that with Roxio's Audio Central (which got in the way so much I finally uninstalled it).

Thanks for your quick reply, Geoff. :)

Thanks for the second opinion, George. :)

Currently, I have Ulead DVD MovieFactory 3 Disc Creator and CDA5a installed...no issues thus far.

Should the need for Nero arise, I'll feel very confident adding it to my system.

Thanx again.

Hello Mike, I've had problems with Nero and any apps using Windows Media Runtime library files version 9 (eg apps that convert wma and similar formats....). Installation of these totally throws Nero, removal restores it. I sometimes have to deal with similar problems for clients and in liaising with Sony it appears their tech dept is aware of possible conflicts with Nero but haven't yet nailed them down. However, AFAIK this shouldn't apply to CDA, more to say Vegas, which supports all those other file formats. Also, I haven't yet upgraded my own copies of Nero higher than 5.5 so the problem may be fixed with v6 and above - post how you get on.....

Hi, ST...thanks for writing.

Although I have the latest version of Nero 6x, I've been doing fine without it. I can use either Exact Audio Copy or CDA 5.0a to extract audio from CDs, then make my new DAO copy from there. CDA appears to do everything I need...nope, I don't bother with CD text. :) Also, CDA has been coexisting quite peacefully with Ulead Movie Factory 3 DVD Creator.

Therefore, I'd say all is well in da Bronx...except for that "fuzz & freeze" problem with ACID Pro 4.0f (I've already posted to the ACID forum).

Best regards,
