Yes, apparently there will be a "Smellivision Envelope" which can be directed to any one of one hundred and twenty eight common odours, which will operate much the same as Buses do currently.

There will be the nasal equivalent of surround sound, so we'll be able to direct smells to whichever part of the room our friends or enemies are sitting.

there was a game called "Liesure Suit Larry 7" that did something simular a few years ago... they included a scratch & sniff card with 9 different smells on it, each with a number. When the # appeared on screen you were susposed to scratch & sniff that number. Was effective. :D

DigiScent was around for the web years ago, they used to display at all the tradeshows, and it was always evident they were around. They had a "scentwell" that was a small box on your monitor that emitted odors. They thought the perfume and food industry would go nuts over it. Looks like they're gone now, based on the absence of info on their website.

Actually, John Waters pioneered the use of "Smell-O-Vision" in the early '80's with scratch 'n' sniff cards handed out to audience members for the theatrical release of "Polyester."

Ahhh... truly indie film-making. Those were the days.... ;-)

I do remember Smellivision. Man, you think theaters stink now, you should have walked into one that had Smellivision installed. It absolutely reeked. Once you got used to the residual background smell from the previous running of the movie, and the main feature started, the smells started coming.

Interestingly all these years later (it was over forty years ago), the smell I remember the most was shoe polish.

I don't think you could do this again in a public place. People are suing because they are sensitive to other peoples' people's perfume. Also, could you imagine watching most modern movies with smells?

In Texas in the 1980s, I bought "Nude Beer" brand longnecks (tall glass bottles) with a label featuring a curvy woman with a bikini that could be scratched off, like the number on a "scratcher" type lottery ticket.

I gave away a whole bunch of these bottles to my friends and said it was a "scratch-and-sniff" label.

100% of them verified it!

:O)

Let's hope they don't do a re-run of the "Blazing Saddles" campfire scene.
