So what is going on with this situation? Is there ever going to be a cineform codec in Vegas? Or another intermediate codec of some sort? I am wondering if I should just buy the Neo Scene - but I would be very upset to do so then find Cineform in the next update of Vegas.
The version of Cineform that was included in previous versions of Vegas was somewhat old (v2.8) and was restricted, you could only encode with it out of Vegas and it was limited to 1440x1080 HDV resolution. This made it useless as an intermediate codec for AVCHD.
Neo Scene is a VFW-compatible codec and can be used for both decoding and encoding in a wide variety of video applications, like After Effects and Virtual Dub. It includes a 64-bit version and will do full 1920x1080 HD. It also comes with the HDLink capture and batch conversion program. In my opinion, the money I shelled out for Neo Scene was well spent.
I am aware of the limitations of the codec that was in previous versions of Vegas... I just don't to buy something only to find out that it is free shortly after.
I am trying the trial version of the NeoScene and I can only see it from Vegas 32bit not 64bit. And when I do render some material form my AVCHD cam with Cineform (32bit Vegas) the results seem very choppy. Encoding video directly in the NeoScene app does not have this problem though.
I wonder if MJPEG would be a good intermediate ;-)
Ask question on our site? To where? I wonder where those messages went. We mainly monitor DVInfo.net and I visit here sometimes.
5.1 has spoty support in AVIs, so Neo Scene only put stereo in the AVI -- I don't know if Vegas even supports 5.1 in an AVI. We have yet to see an AVCHD camera that benefits from 5.1, as it not really a practical acquisition format.
