win2k advice needed for IRQ 9 and my devices

CDM wrote on 9/22/2001, 11:52 AM
I finally have dedicated my system to win2k instead of the multiple boot hell I used to have. So, I really want to make sure my system is running optimally however I noticed right away that, although it claims no conflicts, just about every piece of hardware I have is sharing IRQ 9. Is this bad and if so, how do I change it? I can't imagine that having my network card, my firewire card, my Delta1010 and my SCSI card all sharing the same IRQ isn't causing performance slowdowns.
any advice would be appreciated.

Charles.

This is normal in Windows 2000 when you have an ACPI motherboard. Does not affect system performance and lets you fill up all your PCI slots...

That happened to me and it was hell. my usb mouse would drop out when any soundcard intensive actions were going on and video would mess with the audio. Nothing really should share irq if it can be avoided

You can normally go into your Bios and reserve/assign IRQ's per PCI Slot. Windows will normally obey any assignments that you setup in your Bios. You probably definitely want to keep your 1010 on it's own IRQ.

Good luck,

Hello,

I agree with rednroll, The Delta should be by itself they don't like to share. I wrote a response to your same post in Acid forum, check it out, it might help.

See ya, Rockit

That is normal under Win2k with a ACPI motherboard. If everything works, which it likely does, leave it alone.

See the following for more information:

I agree with Karl.Same here.
I did download the latest updates (service pack 2).This lets win2k see ultra 100 drives.
Def a must.
Good day

SP2 did not let me see m Ultra-100 drives. I had to install the VIA 4-in-1 drivers.
