Is there any practical way to filter out excessive wind buffeting noise? I've got some tracks that have poor audio recordings because of high wind, but I want to keep the intended audio (voice, etc.).
Much of the wind noise is very low frequency rumbles. Most voice starts at around 160Hz or higher. Try EQing with a sharp falloff below 160Hz. That should also help minimize some of the usual thumps you may get from footsteps, people banging on the podium, handling the mic, etc.
If you also have a lot of the higher frequency whispy wind noise, you can try filtering higher frequencies too. If your recording is voice only, you can probably EQ frequencies above 3KHz without losing too much of the vocal quality.
Thanks, will definitely do this next time. Wasn't using an external mike and paid the price. But, was able by playing around with the EQ and compression tools to reduce the wind effect to a tolerable (almost good) level.
