Windos 10: Project folder freezes until I delete small files

Rick-Lecluyse wrote on 6/2/2023, 3:31 AM

Hey guys,

I've been using Movie Studio Platinum 17 and its other versions for years and I regularly have a problem of my project folder freezing and crashing untill I delete the smal vf and other backup files created by the programm. I've tried copying the folder from one SSD to another and even on to a hard drive and the problem still occurs untill I delete the files. Has anyone noticed something similar?

I was thinking about changing the settings, so those backup files wouldn't be saved in my project folder, but that seems not to be possible.

By the way: I'm rendering MP4 Files to AVCHD

Can you describe or show what "freezing and crashing" of a folder on your computer means?

When I open the folder, I suddenly see no files, the folder turns grey and you see an icon, that windows is doing something. If I click on it again, the folder closes and seems to crash, and the taskbar disappears for a few seconds.

Where do you open that folder, in the Windows Explorer or in the Vegas Explorer?

I open the folder in windows, without Vegas running and have that issue - unless I delete the small files regularly.

So it is a Windows problem and not a Vegas problem.
I never saw this while I delete also all the .sfk files(files for seeing the audio file well) for storing the files for saving the video files for later.
Maybe at you caused by the total filesize of the location which has always to be twice the amount of files in it.

Thanks for your reply, but since this is the only folder, that has this problem, and my system runs smoothly, I thought someone might have the same thing going on. Like I said. If I copy the folder to any other SSD or hardrive, the same problem occurs. I sometimes delete the folder and make a complete new one with a new name, after a while this happens again.

It could be that one of the media in that folder is corrupt and is causing the problem. When MSP does open the project, go to that folder in Explorer in Thumbnails view and if any video event appears as an icon rather than with an image view, that video event is likely the culprit. Otherwise, start a new folder and introduce each media event one-by-one. If the problem re-occurs, then the last added media event is the likely problem.

I will try that. Thanks for your advice. The only thing that occurs strange to me is, that the videofiles and the folder work fine after I deleted all the small vf, bak, sfk, sfl and xmp files, created by movie studio.
